Translated title:
Description of the phonetic and phonological system of the tsakonian dialect
Summary:
Tsakonian is of great interest in the context of historical Greek linguistics, modern Greek dialectology and socio-linguistics. It is a genetically and structurally dying modern Greek dialect with unusual or even unique characteristics for Greek. Alt-hough there are several studies that present/examine, among others, the phonetic and phonological characteristics of the dialect, most of them were conducted in the last century without the use of modern methods of acoustic speech analysis. The aim of this article is the presentation of the phonetic and phonological system of Tsakonian as reflected in the speech of three living speakers of the dialect and the acoustic ex-amination of phenomena that differentiate it from common modern Greek and most Greek dialects.
