Investigating classroom dynamics: applying sociometry in the courses of Environmental Studies and Skills Workshops in the 2nd Grade of Primary School
Summary:
Human behavior is shaped and expressed through social communication and interaction between individuals. The child through interdisciplinary relationships develops academically, socially, mentally and emotionally. Besides, the school space is an active dynamic social space in which the student lives and moves and through which his/her socialization depends. Thus, the favorable or unfavorable conditions of the school environment in which he lives affect positively or negatively respectively his psychosomatic and social development. Therefore, the great importance of the relationships developed among the members of the school team led to the preparation of this study that studies the interpersonal relationships between students of a second-grade primary school. Its individual objectives were, on the one hand, to identify the category of popularity that each child is and, on the other hand, to improve these relationships through an intervention program with actions based on collaborative teaching and learning. The objectives of these actions were cognitive, socio-emotional and psychomotor. For the depiction of interpersonal relationships and the investigation of the social status of each student, the research methods of sociometry and observation were used with the application of the tools of the sociogram and the observation key. The findings of the research confirm that the pedagogical strategies implemented contributed positively to the empowerment of the school group by increasing the number of popular students and reducing them the average and at the same time reducing the negative votes from the whole class. In addition, children's reciprocal choices increased while rejections decreased. In addition, the observation key that supported the social status of each student based on the sociogram worked.
