Figures of sound repetition in writings on walls
Summary:
This thesis presents and examines the figures of sound repetition found in writings on walls primarily in Athens. It aims to emphasize the importance of their presence as an indispensable mean for creating the mural writings. As writings on walls, we define the short phrases, even the autonomous and independent words, depicted on walls to communicate ideas, messages and opinions. By conveying messages in a simple and comprehensible way, the creators of the writings, make use of various patterns of speech, so their messages can attract attention and spread concerns. One challenging means of generating interest is the use of homophony patterns. This specific study aims to discover these patterns, recognize the most common and popular ones used from the editors of the writings and identify the frequency of each one.The study is organized in four parts to be easier to read and simultaneously simple to comprehend, non-exhausting and tedious: a) Theoretical part including the definition, content, themes and audience of the writings on walls, a brief description of the sociological behaviors and reasons for their creation as well as a historical retrospection and the definitions of the patterns b) the survey methodology, c) practical part presenting selected and representative examples, divided on categories depending on the categories of homophony, with comments and analysis, all the examples of the writings on walls, organized in tables and columns by category and «Graphs», designating the frequency of pattern usage and their importance and finally d) conclusions.
