Summary:
This thesis analyzes the interdimensional development of international Greek football players from the youth level to the men’s level and investigates various aspects of this process, such as physical, psychological and social challenges faced by the athletes. Information was collected from www.trasfermakt.com and gr.soccerway.com and analyzed as statistical data through the EXCEL spreadsheets. Methodologically, the U-19 footballers who were called in the Greek National Team in the period 2005-2015 were selected, and their progress and participations up to the 2019-2020 season were recorded. Based on the number of 263 players registered, it was observed that only 18% of them managed to make the transition from the U-19 to the men's National team.
It seems that football players who had stepped up to the high National categories had better chances of being called up to the men's national team as proved by the 24% who played in the Superleague. It was observed that 35 % of the football players who played in foreign teams managed to participate in the men's national team, while among the players who participated in European competitions an even higher percentage of 57% was observed.
The recorded percentages show the preference of the national team coaches to invite football players who compete with their top colleagues in the other European leagues and even more frequently those who participate in the European competitions.
Through the results of the research that was carried out, questions arise regarding the potential of the Greek league compared to the rest of Europe, but also how much it could raise the level so that the young football players of the Greek National team manage to be called up through their national league in their country's men's team and take off their career.
With the aim of rebuilding and improving Greek football from the development leagues up to the men's level, decisions should be made by the state and the relevant football factors. The organization of the academies by the professionals of the genre, the support for the Greek football player by the teams and the motivation for investments in the field of football could be key factors in the reconstruction of Greek football and the emergence of young talented football players.
