Access and use of Primary Health Care
Summary:
Introduction:
Primary health care provides care to the whole person for health needs throughout their life and not just for a set of specific diseases. Primary health care ensures that people receive comprehensive care, from promotion and prevention to treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care, as close as possible to people's daily environment. Several studies have been involved in investigating the factors that hinder patients' access to PHC services, as well as the difficulties they face. These studies have been carried out both internationally and nationally.
Aim: The aim of this essay is to study the factors that hinder patients' access to Primary Health Care Units, as well as the difficulties they face.
Methodology:
In the context of the research, the quantitative research method was used, while the tool used is the questionnaire. A sample of the survey was 100 users of public PHC services.
Results:
The survey participants highlighted the most important difficulties they face in accessing public PHC services. These difficulties are found in long waiting times, the lack of available appointments to visit contracted doctors or diagnostic tests and the lack of the necessary equipment required to conduct the tests.
It is clear that in this paper it is not possible to cover the wide range of factors that hinder patients' access to PHC services, however, its conduct seeks to carry out similar research in the future, which will examine this subject more extensively, with a view to making comparisons and drawing further conclusions.
In the context of the literature review of this research, similar studies are presented, among others, that have addressed the issue of the factors that prevent users from accessing PHC services.
