Towards the dialogical idiolect of Elias Lagios: The (post-intertextual) relationship with the Divine
Summary:
This thesis explores the multifaceted dialogue of Elias Lagios' poetics with what -lato sensu- can be considered as the textual presence of the divine (Bible, Hymnography, patristic texts). The Bakhtinian dialogism is exploited at the level of words, of idiological choices, of ideas that coexist in difference (according to Deleuze), but also in its wider (ontological) dimension. To this end, all of Lagios' works are examined, from Alexis Fokas' collection Progress in Progress [1981] to The Rapture of the Box (a popular narrative) [2003], while the research interest reasonably culminates in Man from Galilee (a theological work) [2004]. As dialogue is constitutive in Lagios' poetry, the relationships with thyrantic (literary and generally literary) texts are also examined, when they are interwoven with "sacred letters" or theological reflection. Genette's terminology on the post-intertextual relations linking palimpsest texts makes a key contribution, while reflections (more or less) on the concepts of postmodernism, parody and pastiche are noted, philosophical and theological thought (such as that on the problem of evil) are also discussed in a subsidiary way, and morphological/metrical issues are raised. Finally, scattered texts (book reviews, essays, interviews, etc.) of Lagios from poetry publications or the periodical press as well as early publications of poems are used, while the advantages of the collected edition of the poems and desiderata of research on this extensive, protean and influential poetic work are highlighted.
