Summary:
The aim of this research paper is to investigate the effect of organizational commitment and
human resource management practices on employee satisfaction in the fuel manufacturing
sector. Based on the above stated purpose, a quantitative research was implemented and a
questionnaire was used as a data collection tool, in a sample of 194 employees of the company
HELLENIC PETROLEUM SA. To measure the levels of organizational commitment, human
resources management practices and job satisfaction, the questionnaire of Meyer & Allen
(1991), the questionnaire of Tsaur & Lin (2004) and the questionnaire of Paul Spector (1985)
were used respectively. The results of the survey showed that the employees of the company
HELLENIC PETROLEUM SA show high levels of organizational commitment and perception
regarding the human resources management practices implemented by the company in question
as well as high levels of job satisfaction. From the correlation analysis, it emerged that there is
a positive correlation between organizational commitment, human resources management
practices and job satisfaction. From these findings it is clear that companies that implement
effective human resource management practices can create a positive work environment that
encourages organizational commitment of employees and therefore their satisfaction.
