Summary:
This thesis primarily seeks to approach and capture the problem of domestic violence, presenting the definitions of the phenomenon and the psychosocial effects it brings to the victims. Domestic violence is a serious and widespread social problem. It refers to any form of violence or abuse that occurs between members of a family, such as a partner, children, parents or relatives. Communication plays an important role as a means of dealing with and preventing domestic violence. Communication can help inform family members about the different types of domestic violence, the telltale signs of it and its effects on those experiencing it. Information can promote comprehension and awareness, as well as encourage help-seeking. It can also help provide psychological support and understanding to family members who have experienced violence and promote education and skills development needed to deal with domestic violence. It can teach problem solving, anger management, expressive coping with emotions.
The study concludes by describing the methods and procedures for managing the psychosocial effects of this phenomenon on the individual, the family and the wider society, according to recent data in our country, but also internationally. The important role of communication is the necessary tool for the competent bodies in the direction of the wider public information, which aims at the prevention, the treatment of this social problem, but also the management of the rehabilitation processes of the victims.
