Exploring the utility of alternative augmentative communication in hospital settings: perspectives from clinical staff in Greece
Summary:
The present study offers an extensive analysis of the views of medical and clinical staff regarding alternative augmentative communication in hospital settings. Utilizing contemporary literature sources, the various categories of alternative augmentative communication, the different systems it encompasses, and the populations it targets are thoroughly examined. Additionally, the study delves into the group needed to select the appropriate Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) system each time.

Since the research focuses on the usefulness of AAC in a hospital context, the first part provides information on the application of alternative augmentative communication in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), offering interesting observations and analyses regarding its contribution to communication and patient care in critical health situations.

In the second part of the study, the methodology followed in conducting a small-scale survey using questionnaires regarding the opinions of medical and clinical staff on the usefulness of AAC in a hospital context in Greece is examined. Detailed results and analyses are provided, while limitations encountered during the research process are highlighted. Furthermore, possible directions for future research approaches are proposed.

In summary, the conclusion highlights the main findings of the study while providing perspectives for possible expansions and improvements in the broader research field of alternative augmentative communication in the medical care.
