Summary:
Introduction: The early rehabilitation of patients with stroke has been considered in recent years as a promising method for improving the quality of life of patients.
Purpose: The purpose of the systematic review is to document the assessment scales used in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. Specifically, the scales were investigated in relation to the time of initiation of rehabilitation in the areas of: quality of life, mobility, cognitive function, depression and safety of the scales.
Material and Method: A systematic review of the international literature was performed through the electronic databases Pubmed and Cochrane, from June 2023 to December 2023, with a time limit of ten years. The key words: "Early rehabilitation", "ischemic stroke patients", "Scale" were searched mainly in the title and abstract of the text.
Results: Through early rehabilitation, a significant improvement is achieved in the patients' mobility and quality of life. Specifically, regarding the time of onset, the interval 24-48 hours proves to have positive results. Regarding quality of life, early recovery after 24 hours has significant benefits in activities of daily living, as assessed by the Barthel scale. In rehabilitation of mobility, the Vojta, Acupuncture, Bobath, Mirror therapy methods showed improvement, as assessed with the Fugl-Meyer Assessment scales, the Trunk Control Test, the Motor Evaluation Scale for Upper Extremity in Stroke Patients, etc. In cognitive rehabilitation, acupuncture helped improve, as assessed by the MocA scale. In the effectiveness and safety of the methods used, the RICE method appeared to be tolerated as a method. Finally, depression was assessed with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale.
Conclusions: Early rehabilitation presents various benefits for patients, such as improvement of mobility and deficits presented by the episode as well as improved quality of life. The presence of nurses and the creation of a holistic care plan are vital for the evolution of patients after a stroke.
