Digital technologies in production: algorithms and new forms of organization of labor
Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the digital transformation of labor The research focuses on the concept of digital labor, examining the new forms of work that are developing in the networks of the World Wide Web 2.0. It examines two key questions: the displacement of the human being from production and the new forms of value production emerging in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution. It analyses the characteristics of work on microwork platforms and the role of human labour in the production of AI technologies. It examines the changes at the technical level by delving into the new forms of algorithmic organisation of work on these platforms. The thesis presents the methods of fragmenting work into elementary units and reassembling them in a modular way in order to efficiently complement the computational capacity of the machines and how in this process social relations are inscribed within the lines of programming code and then return as naturalized in society, altering the working landscape. Finally, the thesis synthesizes these theoretical and technological developments into an analysis based on political economy and the restructuring of labour relations.
