Teachers' perceptions regarding their self-efficacy and the inclusion of students with special educational needs
Summary:
The goal of the present study was to investigate teachers’ perceptions regarding their self-efficacy and the inclusion of students with special educational needs. For data collection the Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES) by Tschannen-Moran and Woolfolk Hoy (2001) was used along with the Attitudes Toward Inclusive Education Scale (ATIES) (Wilczenski, 1992, 1995). Further, a demographic characteristics questionnaire was filled out. 340 school teachers from the primary and secondary levels took part in the survey. The results of the study showed that teachers have a rather positive attitude towards inclusive education and a high level of self-efficacy. It was also found that various demographic data were significantly related with their attitude towards the inclusion and their self-efficacy. The results are discussed within the context of the international literature.
