Crisis and risk management in organizations: A study in the educational setting
Summary:
This work is a contribution to the risk analysis in primary and secondary education schools in Greece in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequential digital turn in education. The study presents a number of definitions for Risk Analysis and discusses its relation to education settings. It is argued that the recent pandemic had had a serious impact on student achievement worldwide. The risks arising from the digital turn in education due to the pandemic are also analysed, with an emphasis on the so-called "digital divide". Based on the aforementioned theoretical framework, a survey was conducted on 1010 teachers of Greek public schools. Digital poverty has also been appeared in Greece, and at the same time, it is argued that the organizational support and cooperation of the administration and teachers was not very good. The lack of necessary equipment for distance education, as well as the insufficient training of Greek teachers to deal with previous and future risk intensifies this problem. The study proposes the purchase of technological equipment, increasing students' contact with digital technologies at school and implementing in-service training programs for teachers, as well as the use of novel digital teaching methods.
