The patristic texts in school religious education in Secondary Education
Summary:
Orthodox Christian teaching rests on two pillars: the Holy Bible and Sacred Tradition. The Sacred Tradition begins with the unwritten apostolic tradition, was systematized in the works of the Fathers of the Church, was included in the terms of the Ecumenical Synods and is a daily experience of the practitioners through the Church Tradition. For this reason, it is important to study the Patristic Texts, which are signposts for salvation for Christians.
In this thesis we will refer to the teaching of the Patristic Texts, which in the past were taught as an independent school subject, and we will investigate the frequency with which the Patristic Texts appear in the current Analytical Curricula and in the school textbooks of the Religious Studies course of the three grades of Gymnasium and Lyceum respectively.
School Religious Education is called upon and can make use of this inexhaustible wealth, in order to achieve its goals while shaping the special character of a European education framework. For this reason, at the end, an experimental application of a didactic proposal for utilizing a specific paternal text for the teaching of the creation of the world, under the interpretive lens of the Fathers of the Church, is presented. This is an issue that concerns people of every era, especially young people. Thus, the timelessness of the themes that emerge through the Theology of the Fathers of the Church becomes evident.
