Sociopedagogical Skills of Secondary School Teachers. Creative self-efficacy, Creative Adaptability and Functional Pre-Conceptions. A Correlational Study
Summary:
The present study examines three sociopedagogical skills, creative self-efficacy (CSE), creative adaptability (CA) and the preconceptions for the self, the world, and the future (Beck’s cognitive triad) on a sample of Language and Literature teachers of Attica. The aim of this paper is to study the correlation between CSE, CA and the preconceptions for the self, the world, and the future, given that these dimensions function as protective factors for mental health and share common characteristics. For this reason, a secondary purpose of this study is the potential correlation of these three variables with people’s perceived stress due to the current global crises.
The study is quantitative, and the sample is comprised of 300 Language and Literature teachers from the region of Attica, which was chosen on the grounds of homogeneity. The questionnaires used for this study were the CSE questionnaire, the CA questionnaire, and the DPQ (Dysfunctional Preconceptions Questionnaire). Perceived stress due to global crises was measured through a set of 5 questions, which was tested for its internal consistency (Cronbach’s α).
The results showed that the sample had moderate to high levels of CSE and medium levels of CA, indicating lower values on the sub-scale of emotional CA and higher values on the sub-scale of cognitive CA. The sample showed low to medium values on the DPQ scale. The results also showed statistically significant correlation between the variables CSE, CA and DPQ. Perceived stress did not appear to have a statistically significant correlation with these variables, except for a weak positive correlation with the subscale of behavioral cognitive adaptability. The correlation of the aforementioned variables with the demographics was also studied. Most of the findings showed familiar correlations with the existing literature, while some findings did offer important insight regarding issues that remain debatable.
