THE EFFECT OF INTENSIVE INTERACTION ON THE COMMUNICATION RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOTHER AND CHILD WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER: AN APPROACH FROM SOCIAL PEDAGOGY
Summary:
This paper proposes the method of Intensive Interaction (II) as a new social pedagogical tool, through the theoretical documentation of the link between the fundamental dimensions of social pedagogy and II, and the results of the experimental application of the method. The effect of II on the communicative relationship between mother and child with autism spectrum disorder, as revealed through the child's social skills and the mother's communicative style, was experimentally investigated. A quasi-experimental single case mixed methods design was followed. The quantitative and qualitative findings reflect improvements in the mother-child communication relationship based on a change in the intensity of coded behaviors and a shift in the mother's perspective according to II principles during the intervention phase.
