Mathematical education and gender in high school
Summary:
This study analyzes middle school students from a private school in Athens, focusing on their relationship with Mathematics influenced by gender. The research was inspired by field experience on how boys and girls adopt identities and act on them in the Mathematics classroom. Suspecting ongoing gender-based differences in attitudes within the mathematical community, the study examined male and female students' attitudes towards mathematical education, considering cognitive and socio-cultural parameters and their interaction with self-image. It also investigated whether these attitudes differ by gender.

Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to the middle school students and analyzed quantitatively. The results confirmed the existence of stereotypical perceptions, mainly from boys, and supported the idea that the three examined aspects interact in a chain-like manner, influencing each other. This explains behaviors and opinions that remain entrenched in Mathematics today.
