Summary:
This paper focuses on investigating the benefits of Pilates training, and more specifically the use of the Pilates Reformer. Through a review of the relevant literature, the effectiveness of this form of training in the psychosomatic condition of adults and adolescents, as well as in healthy individuals or those with chronic health problems, is examined. The research methodology is based on a review of empirical studies examining the effect of Pilates and Pilates Reformer training on various aspects of the physical, physical and psychological state of the practitioners. In particular, studies involving different populations, such as different age groups, athletes and people with chronic health problems, were analyzed with the aim of deriving directions for the development and adaptation of Pilates Reformer training programs. The results of the review show that Pilates Reformer training has a variety of benefits. Specifically, of the studies reviewed, eight studies investigate the effect of Pilates Reformer on health and well-being parameters, three studies the effect on quality of life, two studies the management of chronic health problems, and seven studies sports performance and fitness. Studies show remarkable improvements in adults, especially women, enhancing physical health and well-being. The paper's propositions focus on the importance of tailoring training programs to address specific needs of exercisers, such as improving coordination and balance. It also emphasizes the need to progressively increase the intensity and level of exercises, as determined by physical education professionals, in order to achieve the desired results. In conclusion, this research provides valuable information for designing effective Pilates Reformer training programs, highlighting the health and well-being benefits of exercisers, and offering practical directions for physical education professionals.
