THE RELATIONSHIP OF NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE PERFECTIONISM WITH ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, SELF-ESTEEM AND DEPRESSION. THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF THE FAMILY.
Summary:
There are a large number of people who wish to meet high performance standards for
themselves. The purpose of the current research was to study the relationship between
positive and negative perfectionism, academic performance and self-esteem. In particular,
the present study aimed to investigate that higher levels of positive perfectionism are
positively related to higher levels of academic performance, while at the same time it was
examined that higher levels of negative perfectionism would be related to lower levels of
academic performance, and higher levels of depression. Regarding the role of the family
environment, in this study it was specifically investigated that high parental expectations
were expected to be positively related to negative perfectionism, with lower levels of
academic performance, and with higher levels of depression. In addition, this particular
study attempted to show that high parental expectations are negatively related to the
formation of positive self-esteem.
