Simulation and development of rotating triboelectric nanogenerators for the purpose of harvesting energy from mechanical movements
Summary:
This thesis aims at the study and understanding of triboelectric nanogenerators in order to
harvest energy from mechanical movements.
Initially, in the first chapter, a brief description of energy harvesting systems is presented.
In the second chapter, an extensive reference is made to the ways of converting a form of
energy into electricity, such as electromagnetic, electrostatic, piezoelectric, triboelectric.
Additionally, we examine the triboelectric effect and triboelectric nanogenerators focusing in
particular on rotating tribogenerators, reviewing the various implementation models and the
analysis techniques of such models. An extensive reference is also made to the basic
concepts of the theory of materials that can be used on the surfaces of turbine electrodes
and the materials studied in the work are presented.
In the third chapter, the COMSOL software used for the simulation of tribogenerators is
presented.
In the fourth chapter, the simulations of tribogenerators are presented in the COMSOL
software as well as the results obtained from this process.
The fifth chapter presents the experimental procedure for taking measurements during the
operation of tribogenerators under various conditions as well as the results obtained from
this procedure.
The sixth chapter presents the conclusions from all the simulations and draws proposals for
their future implementation and their fields of application.
