Summary:
Based on the understanding that the effective use of I.C.T. must be interpreted in the pedagogical and organizational context, the paper focuses on the impact of technological and pedagogical innovations on the classroom climate. Schools that have implemented changes in practices are characterized by I.C.T. pedagogical innovations. For this to happen, pedagogical innovations should be rooted in teachers' experiences of moving away from a teacher-centered approach to a more child-centered approach. An emphasis on participatory media is required, a radical change in pedagogy facilitated by I.C.T. and recognition of the emerging potential of children, who should be seen as producers of knowledge and active participants in their own learning with the teacher acting as a facilitator. Technological innovations were integrated with pedagogical innovations to provide new learning experiences (Wong et al., 2008) with the teacher playing an essential role in the success of the effective school as a learning space (Androutsou, 2008).
The purpose of this study is to highlight the influence of the pedagogical use of I.C.T. on the interaction between teachers and students, during the learning process, and more generally on the climate of the classroom. The research method of the semi-structured interview, which is classified as qualitative research, was considered more appropriate. The research findings offer interesting information about the new conditions for teaching and learning created by the introduction of technological media, the different learning opportunities as society adopts new models for education, and finally about how small groups interact and develop shared meanings.
According to the teachers’ opinions, it appears that the inclusion of digital media in education constitutes a redefinition of the role of the teacher, flexibility in relation to the traditional limitations of space and time, respect for individual learning rates, greater autonomy and facilitation, improvement/ development of cognitive and metacognitive skills and social skills. Many possibilities are offered through which learners can benefit cognitively, socially and emotionally, with the help of the teacher. The latter should be an assistant, coordinator, guide and consultant and his/her training in I.C.T. to be continuous. The results of the research are considered important to be used in relevant educational programs for male and female students, as well as to form a basis for further research in the field of the pedagogical utilization of I.C.T. in educational practice.
