The administrative organization, the operating framework and the educational activity of the drama schools in Greece from the beginning of their presence until 1983
Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to trace the history of Drama Schools in Greece. An attempt is made to capture the ideas, trends, aesthetic choices, teaching and educational methods and legislative interventions that co-created theater education and, at the same time, the domestic theatrical landscape.

It is mainly research of the archive material located in the Directorate of Artistic Education of the Ministry of Culture. At the same time, I conducted a series of interviews with artists who studied or taught at the Dramatic Schools of the period under review, to complete the picture.

In this thesis, it was considered appropriate to include a chapter concerning important acting teachers of the West, found through the curricula and interviews, to have influenced the teaching of acting and the organization of Drama Schools in Greece. The goal is not to examine their views on acting, but their transformation into educational action and school. Also, the historical context, in which the Drama Schools were born and functioned, is briefly touched on, as theater education is influenced by theatrical production and representation but at the same time influences and shapes it. In this way, the "x-ray" of an entire theatrical generation emerges.

In summary, the Drama Schools are an integral part of the history of the modern Greek theater. That’s why the first axis of the present is the complete recording of the Drama Schools in Greece until 1983, when the legislation governing their operation changed. Another axis of this thesis is the investigation of whether the schools in question fulfilled their goals and how they contributed to the renewal and development of the theater landscape. In this context, the challenge of overcoming the subjectivity that generally characterizes the theatrical community and the attempt to make a more objective assessment is posed. Finally, a critical view of the curriculum, the way it has been treated and the perspectives that may arise, is attempted, so that, through the study of the past, we have tools of thought and analysis that will broaden our horizons and help us to change what we deem necessary, faster and more efficiently.
