Crisis management strategies from the Region Of Attica
Summary:
The PhD thesis entitled “Crisis Management Strategy by the Attica Region: The Case of the COVID-19 Pandemic” examines the challenges, practices, and strategies adopted by the Attica Region during the COVID-19 pandemic to address and manage the resulting crisis.
For the purpose and individual objectives of the doctoral thesis, empirical research was conducted. To collect research data, a properly structured questionnaire was developed and answered by 423 permanent residents of the Attica Region, in the period from June 1, 2023, to August 31, 2023, i.e., after the pandemic had subsided.
The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods to achieve the purpose and objectives of the research.
The research analyzes how the Region of Attica responded to the emergency caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on its rapid adaptation to a dynamically changing environment, implementing strategies that include, among others, the enforcement of public health measures, collaboration with the central government, and the use of technology and innovation to support citizens and respond to the pandemic. Furthermore, the research highlights the importance of communication and transparency in crisis management. It examines the actions taken to support vulnerable groups, strengthen the health system, and rejuvenate the local economy.
Based on its findings, the contribution of the thesis is multifaceted: it reveals the citizens’ perspectives on the strengths and weaknesses of the crisis management by the Region of Attica during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it analyzes the citizens’ attitudes towards their own crisis management.
Consequently, the results of the thesis provide important insights into the effectiveness of the policies followed, the satisfaction of the population with the Region of Attica’s response, and the citizens’ attitudes towards crisis management. This is crucial for their preparation for managing future crises and disasters.
The research concludes with a critical assessment of the crisis management strategy implemented, offering recommendations for the formulation of future crisis management policies and strategies.
