Evaluation of the distance learning during covid-19 pandemic. The case of the "Rescuer Paramedic" educational programme , provided by IEK-EKAB
Summary:
Introduction: The period of the pandemic crisis of Covid-19 brought radical reforms in the educational process, with the shift to distance learning, and leaving, at least temporarily, face-to-face education. The sudden and groundbreaking shift to distance learning for some educators was a new perspective on the future of education, and for others an impersonal process, limited to those familiar with and having access to the new technologies.
Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to investigate the degree of satisfaction of instructors of the "Rescuer - Ambulance Crew" specialty program of the I.E.K. The E.K.A.B., between face-to-face education and distance learning during the period of the pandemic.
Methodology: The study involved 101 learners who were asked to answer a specially designed questionnaire of 52 closed-type Likert scale questions regarding the degree of satisfaction with the face-to-face education and distance learning provided during the pandemic.
Results: The overall degree of satisfaction of the participants face-to-face was 3.79±0.69 compared to 3.36±0.82 from the distance learning (p≤0.001). The age of the participants did not seem to influence their degree of satisfaction. The men of the study reported a higher degree of satisfaction compared to the women, both in the face-to-face education (3.8±0.64 vs 3.7±0.75, respectively, p=0.465) and distance learning (3 .4 ±0.74 vs 3.3 ±0.91, respectively, p=0.438), but without
significant differences.
Conclusions: The results indicate that learners have a higher satisfaction with face-to-face education compared to distance learning. This may be due to a variety of factors, including the lack of personal contact, and the difficulty of staying motivated in distance learning. Additional studies will enhance the elucidation of the factors that influence the different degree of satisfaction between face-to-face education and distance learning.
