Analysis of Journalists' Behavior and Interactions on Twitter: Exploring Patterns and Preferences in Promoting Journalistic Content.
Summary:
This paper examines how journalists' interaction patterns, emotional expressions
and content use have changed with the emergence of Twitter. Using a detailed
analysis of Twitter behaviour among journalists from different media outlets, we
explore to what extent journalists interact with like-minded colleagues, how their
emotional expressions are affected and whether content strategies lead to high
engagement. The study also examines a third aspect of this question, which
concerns the virality of the tweets they generate and how journalists balance good
journalism with giving users what they want. The research looks at journalistic
practices in the US and the UK, demonstrating some stark contrasts between how
journalists use Twitter and benefit from it. The findings help to understand how
journalists navigate the digital world - Twitter in particular - and shed light on
journalism in general in the age of social media.
