Original Title:
Οι σχέσεις ανθρώπου-ζώου στο έργο του Edgar Allan Poe, και η θεωρία του για την ενότητα του κόσμου και του εαυτού.
Translated title:
The human-animal relations in the work of Edgar Allan Poe, and his theory of the unity of the world and the self.
Summary:
Edgar Allan Poe's works and the presence of animals in them have been the subject of many critics, who have produced a variety of interpretations and translations. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study and analyze some selected works of the author from various genres with which he was involved, and to explore the human-animal relationships in them, as well as the connection with his philosophical theory of the unity of the world. It was found that the construction of such a theory necessarily passes through the paths of exploration of the human soul and the concept of self, and involves reconciliation with animals and nature. Therefore, from the author's perspective, important arguments for this purpose can be made, which include the deconstruction of man's sacred and separate place in nature. The Horror short stories can be interpreted as a means of serving this purpose, as they highlight the horrific consequences that this separation can bring about, both for man and for the world.
