Summary:
The memory system supports supports almost every interraction between the human and the environment. The execution of mathematical tasks is a complecated procedure which is supported by many cognitive processes. The main aim of this research is to trace the special contribution of the working memory system in the perfomance of arithmetic tasks. We examined if individually verbal and visuospatial working memory as well as speed of information processing can predict the performance of children in number skills assessment at kindergarden and the first two grades of elementary school. Results suggested that visuospatial working memory and speed of information processing emerged as predictors of the performance in number skills in relation to age related differences to the general sample.
