Environmental and Health Aerosols Consequences from the Mega Earthquake Explosions
Summary:
Physical disasters can be a threat both for the society as well as for the economy of a specific area. In most cases they are unpredictable although many instruments have been devised in order to foresee such an event. Regarding natural disasters my reference will be placed down to phases of an eruptive volcano.
This is of major interest due to the fact that in our country (Greece) the understanding of such phases will help prevent and simultaneously preserve our constructed environment. Volcano eruptions are closely tied to movements of the tectonic plates of the earth’s crust. Universally there are various types of volcanoes and they vary according to their shape, chemical substance of the magma, the geotectonic environment and the geographical area in which they are situated. Volcanoes are a subject of study due to the impact they have on the population and the population’s health as well as the economy.
As with all the natural disasters of our planet, volcanoes are of great importance due to measures available for prevention and administration. In that sense, any evacuative measures are of administrative importance and apply to life saving plans.
Finally, the issue of restoration is another fundamental issue which comes with the notion of how a settlement can be reclaimed to its previous state. In other words how can a community re bounce as if a disaster never happened.
The purpose of the present thesis is to present the consequences of the aerosols from major volcanic eruptions, to the environment and health. A historic flash back will occur, where volcanoes such as that of Santorini, Methana, Nisiros and other of the Hellenic prefecture, will be discussed in detail. Through this flash back, the impact on man and his environment will be examined.
In fact this thesis is a bibliographical flash back which aims to connect the organized administration of such mega events (which had smaller cost due to successive administration) and it will point to administrative flaws which will act a tool for future improvement.
