The translation of metaphors in the novel El juguete rabioso by Roberto Arlt
Summary:
The translation of metaphors has provoked a series of disputes among traductologists throughout centuries. There are those who claimed metaphor is translatable whereas, some of them supported that metaphor is untranslatable and its translation depends on the proximity of the languages. The aim of this project is to make a traductological approach of the metaphors in the autobiographical novel El juguete rabioso of the Argentinian writer Roberto Arlt, which is not translated in Greek until today. For the translation are used the technics proposed by Hurtado Albir. Namely, the traductological techniques applied are the generalization, the literal translation, and the transposition, among others, the majority of times combined between them, in order to achieve the best possible translation of a metaphor and to examine if its dynamic can be maintained by means of equivalence or if it is lost when translated from the source language to the target language by an explicative form.
