Summary:
The purpose of this study was the analysis of the characteristics of corner kicks at “Copa America” which took place at Brazil in 2021. The results are compared with the current bibliography by other national football organizations so there will be useful conclusion for the coaches and the teams.
For this purpose the analysis showed that 175 corner kicks were executed from 10 teams who participate at Copa America in 2021. The method of observation helped with the analysis by using the program WYSCOUT. Some of the basic variables were: match status, execution time, the manner and the kind of executing of corner kick, the player who made first contact with the ball, the pressure during the first contact, final attempt for the attacking team and the final outcome. The comparison of the frequency of the variables was conducted with the use of x²-Test, the significance level was set at p < .05.
According to the results the teams executed most of the corner kicks with significant statistic differences (p<0.05) when the result was tie at the moment (41,1%), during the second half (56,6%), by the same foot as the corner kick executed (58,9%) with direct corner kick, by the direction of the ball outswingingand high (>70%). When the corner kick was taken the teams preferred to not place a defensive player at the first and second post, the player who had the first contact with the ball was an attacking player (52,6%). According to the analysis throughout the 175 corner kicks 55 of them were final attempts on the target, of which 8 goals were scored (4,57%), including the final attempts on target the percent goes up to 12,57%. About the final result based on the 55 final attempts it is observed that the percent of 8 successful goals goes up to 14,54%, if 22 final attempts at the target are added to this the percentage rises to 40%.
In conclusion throughout the current analysis the executions of the corner kicks affect the result of the presentence of the final attempts to the opponent goal, especially the goal accomplishment. Therefore the constant training will benefit by increasing the efficacy of achieving goals.
