Palaeolithic human-environment interaction in the Aegean

This paper looks at the Palaeolithic archaeology of the Aegean region, focusing on human interaction with the environment. Within this scope of early humans in a specific region, human migration, interaction with Neanderthals who were present in the area, and the development of cultural behaviours and climate change will be looked at to determine if these factors played a role in interaction patterns changing over time. Key areas of investigation include the utilisation of flora and fauna, tool production, and material culture from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Palaeolithic periods. The archaeological findings are analysed in relation to existing theoretical models, questioning how environmental and cultural changes shaped early human behaviour in the region. The study concludes by situating the Aegean in its broader Palaeolithic context and assessing the archaeological evidence for modern human behaviour during this period.
